The Self eSTEAM Challenge ’23 is launched

If you like DIY or creativity, the Self eSTEAM Challenge it is your ideal challenge. This year, the challenge consists to build an ingenious circuit of marbles on the theme of water. By researching and experimenting, the participants of the challenge will be able to combine the various component that are part of the kits and complete it with own parts if they wish to do so.
Anyone between the ages of 6 and 24 can take part, whether with family, friends or in a formal or non-formal education institution. “The challenge combines construction skills with the creative skills inherent in everyone of us! The aim of the challenge is to stimulate and enhance these skills”, explains Eric Krier, founding member of the make it association and initiator of the project.
The name of the challenge indicates its purpose: the challenge aims to encourage interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) disciplines in Luxembourg and at the same time to strengthen the self-confidence of children and young people by making them aware of the skills they already possess or can acquire in a very short time.
After a first edition with 1600 kits distributed in 2022, a total of 2000 kits will be distributed this spring. “This year’s theme is saving water, a precious resource of our planet. As we can only achieve this as a community, we have imagined a challenge where participants work together and do not compete against each other”, adds Romain Gierenz, project coordinator.
The participants will also find support in the Robotic-Makerspace that the association make it has been able to install at the CNFPC in Esch-sur-Alzette. In addition, the MakerBuzz, the first mobile makerspace in Luxembourg, will be touring the country. The grand finale will take place on 17 June 2023 in Esch/Alzette. In the meantime, participants can tinker, test and optimise.
The Self eSTEAM Challenge is financially supported by the Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte and the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR). The distribution of the kits started on 6th of April 2023.
